Train with free weights or your body weight?

Most people overthink this question. Should you use free weights. Should you train with only your bodyweight. Which one is better. The truth is simple. Both work. Both build strength. Both improve confidence. What matters is which one fits your goals and which one you will stick to. Lisa says this every week. The best plan is the one you can follow.

Training With Bodyweight

Bodyweight training is perfect for beginners, busy people and anyone who wants to build strength without complicated equipment. Push ups, squats, lunges, planks and step ups can take you a long way. They improve stability, mobility and control. You learn how to move your body properly before adding resistance.

Bodyweight sessions are also ideal for training at home or while travelling. If you stay consistent, they build strong legs, a solid core and great upper body strength. If you want a few ideas for simple routines, read our post Simple CrossFit Principles You Can Include in Your Next Workout.

Training With Free Weights

Free weights take your progress to another level. Barbells, dumbbells and kettlebells help you build lean muscle, burn more calories and feel stronger in everyday life. They challenge your stabilising muscles and force your body to adapt. This is how you create long lasting results.

Many ladies worry that weight training will make them look bulky. It will not. It tones your body, tightens your shape and boosts confidence. If you want to understand how strength training fits into fat loss, check our post The Myths of Shedding Body Fat Explored.

Which One Should You Choose

If you are starting out, begin with both. Use bodyweight to learn form and control. Add free weights when you feel comfortable and ready to progress. Your body responds best to simple, consistent training. Strength grows when you challenge yourself, not when you stay safe forever.

Martin always reminds members of one thing. You do not need perfect technique to start. You need the willingness to show up. Progress comes from repetition.
